Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Sabati
What is Sabati?
Sabati is an intelligent writing system that helps you capture, refine, and ship your ideas through persistent, AI-powered nudges. Unlike other tools that assume you'll come back on your own, Sabati actively keeps your work alive by asking thoughtful questions via email, SMS, or in-app—even when you step away.
Think of it as an AI writing companion that doesn't forget about your ideas when you do.
How is Sabati different from other writing tools?
Most writing tools help when you're present. Sabati helps when you're absent.
- TODO apps remind you what to do. Sabati asks why and what's next.
- AI writers generate content for you. Sabati generates momentum—you do the thinking.
- Note apps store your ideas. Sabati keeps them alive and moving forward.
What can I use Sabati for?
Sabati currently focuses on writing, with two modes:
- Idea Refinement: Start with a rough idea and refine it through conversation with Muse, your AI assistant. Some ideas just need clarity—you can stop here without ever writing an article.
- Article Mode: When you're ready to expand, turn your refined idea into a full article with continued nudges and editorial guidance. Publish to LinkedIn, WordPress, or copy anywhere.
The nudge engine powering Sabati is designed for any long-running task. Writing is just the first application—more coming soon.
What is Muse?
Muse is your AI writing companion inside Sabati. It asks probing questions to help clarify your thinking, proposes refinements to your ideas, and provides editorial guidance as you write. Muse adapts to where you are in your writing process—whether you're still figuring out what you want to say or polishing a final draft.
What are persistent nudges?
Persistent nudges are Sabati's way of keeping you engaged with your work over time. When you step away from an idea or article, Sabati doesn't forget. It will send you thoughtful questions at the right moment through:
- Email with reply tracking (respond directly to the email)
- SMS text messages
- Web push notifications in your browser
- In-app when you return to Sabati
You control the frequency, timing, and channels. Sabati nudges—it doesn't nag.
What does "Bring Your Own Key" (BYOK) mean?
Sabati uses your own AI API key to power Muse and the nudge system. You connect directly to OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google Gemini—we never see your data or your bills.
- Your key, your control. Pay your AI provider directly. Cancel anytime.
- Privacy first. Your writing never passes through our servers for AI processing.
- Auto-detect. Paste your key and we'll automatically detect your provider.
Don't have an API key? We'll show you exactly how to get one during setup.
Which AI providers are supported?
Sabati currently supports:
- OpenAI (GPT-4, GPT-4o, and other models)
- Anthropic (Claude)
- Google Gemini
We auto-detect your provider based on your API key prefix. You can also use mini models for faster, cheaper ambient tasks while keeping full models for the important work.
How much does Sabati cost?
Sabati is free and will remain free. I built it to help myself write more consistently, and I'm sharing it in the hope that it helps others too.
You only pay for your own AI provider usage (OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google Gemini)—Sabati doesn't add any fees or markup.
Where can I publish my articles?
Sabati currently supports publishing to:
- LinkedIn (OAuth connection)
- WordPress (API key connection)
- Copy to clipboard (plain text, Markdown, or HTML)
More platforms coming soon. You can also schedule posts for later publishing.
Is my writing private?
Yes. Your privacy is a core principle:
- Your writing is stored in your Sabati account, not shared or used for training.
- AI processing happens directly between your browser and your AI provider (BYOK model).
- We don't have access to your AI provider API key after you save it (it's encrypted).
- Nudge content is generated based on your writing, but we don't read or analyze it ourselves.
Can I use Sabati on mobile?
A mobile app is in development. For now, Sabati works in any modern web browser on desktop or mobile. You can receive nudges via email or SMS and respond from anywhere—the context will be waiting for you when you return.
What if I don't want to be nudged?
You're in control. You can:
- Pause all notifications globally (for a specific time period)
- Pause notifications per idea (some ideas need space)
- Choose which nudge types you receive (probing questions, editorial feedback, etc.)
- Set active hours so nudges only come when you want them
- Adjust frequency from aggressive to gentle
Sabati respects your focus. It won't nudge you while you're actively writing.
How do I get started?
- Sign up for the alpha (it's free).
- Add your AI API key from OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google Gemini.
- Create your first idea and start refining it with Muse.
- Set up notifications so Sabati can reach you when you step away.
- Optionally connect publishing platforms like LinkedIn or WordPress.
The onboarding will guide you through each step. Most people are up and running in under 5 minutes.
I have more questions. How can I get help?
